A-General Procedure for admission to the NBCDH:
1- Online application are found by clicking on LOGIN and choosing admission at the bottom right corner.
2- Please enter all required information indicated on the application form. Some basic contact information will be required to create your online admission account and receive a temporary password by email. It is recommended to check in your junk mail for the link to create your login information if you have not received a message from Gestisoft admin immediately following your submission.
3- Use this temporary password and your email to access and complete the application and submit all required documents indicated. It is recommended to change your password on the top right.
4- Note that some documents require notarized copies of documents such as your diploma, National exam, declaration. These must be notarized by a Notary Public member or Commissioner of Oaths.
5- Payments can be made by cheque or money order to the NBCDH, or by contacting us at 506-872-3133 to make a credit card payment.
6- Fees are $410.00 plus a non-refundable application fee of $150 for a total of $560. Licensing year begins January 1 and ends December 31st. Fees are not prorated.
7- Please allow two weeks for review of your application.
8- If you have been previously licenced in NB, please contact the Executive Director/Registrar.
9- Application checklist: To help facilitate and ensure that all documents have been submitted with your application, the following check list can be downloaded:
B-Requirements for admission:
1- An application for admission shall be filed with the Registrar with all documentation stated in section 2.
2- Documentation to be submitted:
(a) the applicable fees;
(b) an un-mounted passport size photo of the applicant;
(c) a copy of birth certificate, citizenship certificate or other identification documents satisfactory to the Registrar;
(d) a notarized copy or proof of completion of any degrees or diplomas and any certifications relating to a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada or the equivalent as determined by Council;
(e) a notarized copy of a certificate from the National Dental Hygiene Certification Board, or equivalent as determined by Council;
(f) proof of liability insurance in the amount of a minimum of $1,000,000 per case with an aggregated amount of $5,000,000. The following insurance providers have been reviewed by the NBCDH and have been deemed acceptable:
CDHA (www.cdha.ca), CDSPI (www.cdspi.com). Dental hygienists choosing CDSPI must work under the supervision or direction of a dentist.
(g) proof of current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Level C certification ( Must have been completed within the previous two years) ;
(h) proof of successful completion of any module or equivalency approved by Council in order to receive specific practice designation ; and
(i) an undertaking to acquire a proper understanding of the contents of the Act and these Rules within six months of admission to the College;
(j) any other documents required by the Registrar.
C-Procedure for applicants currently registered in another province
An applicant transferring from another Canadian jurisdiction must:
(a) provide all documentation mentioned in section B with the following exceptions:
- indicate the college or university and the year of graduation where they received their diploma ( no copies required);
- indicate the certification number received from the National Dental hygiene Certification Board, if applicable (no copies required);
(d) provide a statement as to the good standing of the applicant from the regulatory authority of the other jurisdiction where they are currently licence
(e) the Registrar may waive any of the criteria for registration required by these Rules.
D- Applicants who have graduated from a non-accredited program will be required to:
(a) submit all required documents in section B; and
(b) successfully complete a clinical assessment approved by Council.
E- Lapse of Practise
An applicant who has not practised dental hygiene within the three years immediately before her application must provide proof of successful completion of the necessary continuing education as determined by Council and may be required to have passed an examination or examinations approved by resolution of Council. An approved refresher program will be required for anyone who has not practised within the three years. Please contact the Registrar for more information.
F- Requirement for all new applicants:
In order to inform the new applicant of the contents of the Act and current Rules, the NBCDH requires that all applicants must schedule a personal meeting with the Registrar/Executive Director within a month of registering with the College.
RENEWAL OF LICENCE:
The renewal period will be open for all current registered dental hygienists begins mid October of the current year and will end on November 30th. Please contact the Registrar for any request for renewals before or beyond those dates. Renewal applications will be accessible on the members section of the website at that time.
TRANSFERING STATUS FROM A NON-PRACTISING TO A PRACTISING MEMBER:
Non-practising status may be granted to a NB registered dental hygienists who is not practising in the current licensing year (January 1 to December 31) and is a member of good standing.
For a registered dental hygienist who currently holds a non-practising status with the NBCDH and wishes to change to a practising status, you must submit the remaining fees for a practising license ($250). Your initial fees for a non-practising licence of $160 will have been credited towards practising fees ($410). You must also provide proof of current CPR level C and proof of personal liability insurance. Please contact the Registrar to determine the required Competencies and Education requirements that may be imposed in order to transfer to a practising licence.
